This work is my own work and does not represent the views of Macquarie University staff or students.
Background.
This blog post was based around the lesson we had prior, from which had required us to acknowledge and adopt the feedback given from our last essay. The posts intent was for us to show what our feedback had entitled and how we could utilise it, with examples demonstrating our new knowledge.
The feedback for my integrative summary has become very useful to me in a multitude of ways. Throughout the essay, there were many ‘awkward’ signs on specific phrases which had been difficult to read. This is useful to me as I am able to utilise this in a positive way for my persuasive essay. For example. I will take more care in my sentence structure and read it out loud to ensure its not either too long, too short or awkwardly phrased.
Next, there was a note in my text comment which stuck out to me. It stated that there were concerns with a lack of formal language within my essay. I have always had trouble with finding the correct language as well as not choosing the right words. This has often been due to using the thesaurus, and not researching what the word means within the right context. this led to many ‘word choice’ signs throughout. For example, my use of contractions instead of the full word, such as ‘aren’t’ and ‘can’t’ didn’t allow me to get the best grade I could have, which I will keep in mind for the persuasive essay.
One of my greatest struggles is adhering to the APA reference style, mostly within the citations. I had a tendency of adding page numbers just-in-case, which lead to most of my citations being incorrect. The text comment noted that I had used it for indirect voices, in which page numbers are not needed. This is seen where I stated ‘Rademaker (2019, p.1) also reports…’. reflecting on these mistakes has allowed me to understand indirect and direct voices better, which will be very valuable to me in the future.
Although this wasn’t all of the feedback I had received, these were the ones that I have constant trouble with, so the personal feedback from Margo, as well as the site really helped me and will continue to for both my persuasive essay and future texts.
